Hey hey! My name's Derek. I'm a 28 year old SF native.
I take the world deeply seriously about 10% of the time, and I try to do the exact opposite all the rest. I love rock and metal music because it channels every raw feeling into something grand, powerful and cathartic, but also because it's just fucking fun!
I'm a city boy, but I take a lot of solace in nature. I can hang at a rooftop bar downtown or in a hammock between two trees off a trail. I just don't do very well with suburbs, lol.
I'm a poli sci grad from San Francisco who is *shockingly* conservative, but to a well moderated degree. I stand firmly for my beliefs (which are not radical), which I have taken thorough time to study and formulate. That said, I am, for the most part, open minded to all points of view.
I was married once at 24, but only briefly; this was a marriage primarily of political implications (citizenship), ironically ended by irreconcilable political differences. With this experience in mind, I am unfortunately acutely aware of the importance of putting this out there from the very beginning: I am looking for someone who does not fight me at every turn, yet still challenges me to learn and grow - a very tricky balance.
I'm a simple guy, honestly, and I more or less know what I want. I wanna rock, I want to explore the world and I want to give love. I have a big heart (if I must say so myself!) and have endured plenty of hardship. I'm a goofball that likes the occasional dark joke (just try and cancel me!) but I have a good gauge for noting when someone isn't taking any more of my shit.
Oh yeah! My favorite artist is Alice in Chains. I love grunge, glam metal, oldies, know way too much about the Beatles, and also get down with modern electronic stuff and all sorts of eclectic shit. Not a country or rap fan really, though outliers exist.
Anyhow, I'm in no hurry to declare long-term or short-term or any other titles on a specific relationship I'm looking for. At this point - being totally honest - I'm open to whatever naturally comes to be, so hit me up and let's find out!
